Bagley no more

Well, I just found out (after not really checking up the comic loops for the last... I dunno, year?) and Bagley's qutting USM. Or rather quit. About 6 episodes ago.

For those who think I'm speaking geek (I meant to type that since this is clearly English and not in fact, Greek), USm is Ultimate Spider-Man and Bagley's the penciler for it, since day one. His collaboration with Bendis, the writer of USM, has lasted for 110 issues which Wikipedia assures me outstrips the previous 'long collab' record held by Stan Lee and Kirby on their Fantastic Four run. Y'know, back in the day. (Read: before most of us were born) In other words, Bagley's behind the distinctive look of the artwork of USM as we know it. (Though I do love the way Isanove inks. *squee*)

Anyhow, Bagley's been replaced by this chap called Stuart Immonen (Canadian. Hrm. There is doubtlessly a joke that needs to be said with this but I try to keep my racism non-existent. 'Cept for the Irish jokes. Those write themselves.) Sadly the only example of his work I own (as far as I can find) is thoe cover art for Ultimate X-Men in the Ultimates Annuals. I... can't imagine the entire of USM in that style. My mind just balks. (Though he does have pretty stuff up on his site.)

I'm not going to flip out until I've seen USM issue 111 or onwards and gotten a proper look at Immonen's work but one way or another, I'm really sad Bagley's left. I mean, burn out and all is completely understandable but damn, I liked his art.

Unfortunately I am now stone broke (I mean broke. There's 30 cents in my wallet) and between my 360 fund and the new Halo comic that just came out (Halo: Uprising), there's no telling when I'll next be able to afford a trip down to the comic store.

Some of the guys were wondering yesterday why we never get to see the Master Chief's face. It's deliberate; Bungie wants us to be able to maintian this illusion that we are the MC. Hence, no face. Kinda doesn't work that well though when his voice is deep, gravelly and obviously male and you're an 18 year old girl.

Decompression

Prelims are over so I went out with some class mates for lunch today. Wanted to watch the movie with the french rat (who's name I cannot spell and shall not embaress myself by trying to) with Grace but it doesn't start tomorrow and the sneaks all show at sucky times. Sam is a capsican fiend. Seriosuly, he ate everything I peeled off my hotdog. And while it was good, I prefer the ones from Central Park.

Just bought the rest of the Ultimate Spider-Man Clone Saga and it is THE BOMB. Finally, some closure to all the cryptic little cliffies sprinkled throughout the series. Looks like Doc Ock's really dead too- or as dead as Marvel villians ever get. Which isn't very... Anyhow, I'm glad Gwen's not dead (for good), that the Fantastic Four are on Spidey's side and that Nic Fury admitted Spidey's one helluva good guy. But he's still a tool. Oh yes, and that Kitty finally broke up with Peter. God, she was getting so whinely and insecure. No wonder Bobby dumped her. I mean, I'm a girl and I can't understand a high maintainence girfriend like that. MJ (Mary-Jane) and Gwen are waaaaay cooler.

And I disagree with Aunt May; Spider-Man's costume is not terrible.

Waiting for Spectra jackets and going out with my family for dinner tonight

Nobody move; I dropped my brain

So, final birthday bash count is assortment of text messages (credit goes to Red for the earliest one; I received it at 12:01 June 1st), Venom Carnage (comic), Marvel 1602 (hard cover comic ohmygodthesexiness) and watching pirates 3.

I love Jack Sparrow! It's the way he runs. And talks. And makes absolutely no sense even while being so very sensible.

Uh, right.

The funny thing about pirates 3 is that I think i actually enjoyed it more than Spidey 3- treason and heresey (misspelt that) I know, but true. Both suffer from similar complaints of having simply gotten too big for their boots. Too many characters, no real, believeable plot, bad pacing (draggy at bits- though found pirates sufficiently entertaining) and overly-reliant on brilliant CGI to bring in the crowds. Yet pirates was better. Why? Really better? Or somply better because we expected less from it?

My theory: we expect more from Spidey because it's Spidey. There's a gold-mine of plot to bring to play, enourmously three-dimensional giants of characters and consultation with Stan th' man in movie production. And Riami calls himself a fan.

On the other hand, pirates is a totally new thing. A whole 'nother ball game (thanks Red for waking my brain up to the smell of idioms in the morning). New series, different purpose, different history (it was a Disney ride before the movie for pete's sakes; what were you expecting for brain thrust?) and it saves itself with its humour and characters.

As much as it pains me to say this, Jack Sparrow's a much better character than the movie Spider-Man.

Why the hell doesn't the silver screen Spidey blow our ears off with his back-chat?!?

Right... officially done being rabid for now a will go do... stuff.

Meandering 1

Friday again, another week passed without event and man, I need another life.

Can I have yours? Mine's f***ed up.

Have to do a ton of econs reading this weekend. Red just had her econs test and it was bloody hard and she's taking an "easier" paper than me. And since we have the same teacher... Evil, the cool teachers are always the evil ones. Makes me vaguely glad DT doesn't actually teach my class...

If you thought I was a geek for Spidey, you should see this. See? I just wore my Spidey t-shirt and Spidey bag from Universal studios and saved my ticket stubs and had to watch the movie with a theatre of screaming little five-year olds...

So full of hate.

Remeber that one make traditional artist we have in Spectra? Yeah... I think the bunny girl's trying to turn him gay... crap. We're turning into a cesspool of decadence!

Statistically Gay

Cyanide and Happiness, a daily webcomic
Cyanide & Happiness @ Explosm.net

Well, alot's happened since the last post. Spider-Man 3 was fab. Bit draggy at some bits but the fight scenes were fab. I only wish they could have fleshed out Venom more. The whole movie was just too packed, so it got draggy and the character development wasd patchy in spots. but I shan't say any more so I don't spoiler it for all you people who DIDN'T WATCH IT ON THE FIRST DAY. Hah.

Favourite quote: I like being bad. It makes me happy.

DT says we have to step down from Spectra exco somewhere in term three. T.T I knew it was coming but I still can't imagine JC life without Spectra! It's been an inegral part of my ACsperience- even when you-know-who was in power. (No, it's not Voldemort.)

We did a quiz in GP class today to see how masculine or feminine we are. I had the least feminie results out of all the girls. Even Red got higher than me... According to the survey results, I'm statistically obligated to be gay. Freak-eh. I'm more "manly" than Cheng Jie! I don't think that's actually something to be proud of though...

Hmm, lots of emotional stuff on Monday but I don't think I'm gonna talk about that. (Other people emo-ing, not me. I'm nice and steady despite my lack, sorry, absence of sanity.)

I have a chem test and a math test next week. And an INK submission due. I'm gonna DIE.

Fandom

Today's been... interesting. But nowhere as near as interesting as Tuesday's gonna be. :)

From Spider-Man at noon to math tuition at four then rounding up the day with dinner with the extended family at seven thirty. I have just one thing to say:

SPIDER-MAN 3 ADVANCE TICKETS!

My mom called me a dorky fan. I am so insulted. I can't help it that Spidey's sooooo uber cool. and before anybody says it, I'm NOT a Tobey fan! I hate him. hatehimhatehimhatehim. with his weak chin and pasty face. UGH, he's awful for Spidey. He was alright for the first movie coz' Spidey didn't start out uber buff and cool but the beauty of the series has in part been Peter Parker's metamorphesis into a pretty cool guy even if he started out a dorky nerd. Tobey has unfortunately stayed dorky.

Too, why is Eddie Brock not mega-buff? The whole point is the Symbiote enhances your existing strength. And Venom was stronger than Spidey in part because Brock was always a muscle man. I know he wasn't in ultimate Spidey and that's more I wanna gripe about. Honestly, I miss the gritiness of the old, traditional Spider-Man. Things like Maximum Carnage, Kraven's Last Hunt, the Goblin saga, the Clone saga, House of M... It feels like Ultimate's pussy-footing around it. But then again... ultimate Spidey is for a different time, a different generation, a different world.

The way I see it, it seems that the big favourite for the old school Spidey was psycho paths and the end of the world. Now... the psychopaths, the possible end of civilization as we know it, that's all real. 9/11 changed alot of things. So now the new generation of Spidey (and really, most of Marvel) (I'm talking about the ultimate series) is focusiong more on the "what happened before the world blew up". Sorta the changes that led to the storm I guess.

Or the ultimate folks may have just decided they want a more kid-friendly thing. Maybe Ultimate Spidey will get darker as it gets older and "grows up" as a series but right now, it's alot of teen-angst. But it still rules.

Though I really, really miss old-school Carnage and Venom.

Wow, and I thought I couldn't do long posts...

Oh yeah, found Cheng Jie and Sohpia's blogs. :) From Stoofy of course.
